He also hinted that the University had produced bamboo-based sanitary pads (Biocare Sanitary Pads), an initiative with strong potential, as part of its practical innovation drive. However, he highlighted the need for support to patent the innovation.
Her Excellency, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, welcomed the delegation and reiterated her interest in preserving and strengthening the core Technical Universities’ character, saying, "The transformation of Polytechnics into Technical Universities was a deliberate initiative guided by rigorous audits to ensure value-chain relevance, skills development, and industry alignment."
She emphasised the importance of long-term planning, including building an agenda around the younger generation, aligning curricula with future national priorities and adding value to locally developed products, adding that, “with sustained collaboration and strategic support, technical universities such as Cape Coast Technical University will play a transformative role in national development."
Prof. J. N Opoku-Agyemang, expressed admiration for the bamboo-based sanitary pads innovation, particularly it’s integration into the curriculum and alignment with real societal needs.
